Excerpt: ...on any side, and so vehement and mighty, keen and strong is it, that no power and nothing strange can subsist before it, for whatever is not truth, or in the truth is vanity, and vanity hath never stood, nor can stand before the face of truth. And thus the soul becometh conformed to the Holy Trinity, in its own measure, by the three powers which it possesseth. First, it is like unto the Eternal Father, Who is without beginning and from none by its memory, which in a certain way containeth and retaineth all things, and from it all things proceed. And by it the soul becometh so conformed, if it be naked and free from all strange forms, that can transform it, as never to suffer in any wise from fantasies, but powerfully to operate in all things, and wholly to disdain that its own nobleness should be busied about what is exceeding vile. Secondly, it is like unto the Son, Who is Truth Itself, and Eternal Wisdom, by its reason, through which it becometh conformed, if in all things it shall walk in the sight of Truth, and if all things temporal or eternal, inward or outward, equal or unequal, and all things that are made or done taste unto it, as they are: and if this be so, then not in anything can it be straitened. Thirdly, it is like unto the Holy Ghost, by its will, through which it becometh conformed to Him, if when the memory receiveth nothing strange or useless, the reason or the understanding receiveth nothing save what is good, true and just. By the will is it moved with its whole affection, and vehemently desireth what the memory and reason judge ought to be willed and loved. And this is that true beatitude of soul, which as much the nearer, more perfect, and more conformed it is to God in this present time, will be so much the more pleasing...
